Home for Rent

We are finally getting our home ready to rent and wanted to post some pictures for those who would like to take a look around. If you are interested in renting a house with history and charm, please see the details, and how to get a hold of us, at the end of this post.

We bought this place when my son was only 6 months old, so really it was our first home as a family. It was built in 1916 of the Craftsman style architecture, most popular between the 10s and 30s. In the cellar (6 ft tall basement) you can still find the old coal that was used to heat the home back in the day. Of course, it has since been retrofitted with natural gas heating, running water, and modern plumbing. The 1400 sq ft 2-story house sits on a 1/5 acre lot that has been wonderful for our son to play in.

Last year I was able to put in a garden. Granted it's only two small square-foot garden boxes surrounded by gravel with an apple tree in the middle, but it was my little piece of heaven on earth. I had my folding chair and outdoor table set up right next to it, under the big shade tree, where I could sit and admire my plants and produce. Coming from a climate where only dates and citrus grow, I was amazed at what my little plot of earth could produce. Toward the middle of the season I dug the trench for the sprinkler system that my husband and I installed. You have to hook the hose up to it, but you can leave the water on and it will travel through the drip system and waste very little water.

Another project we worked on while living here was to add a larger closet to our bedroom, which we eventually turned into our son's room. Originally, there was a very small linen-closet sized clothes storage that was situated over the basement stairs, so there was only room to hang clothes and none on the slanted floor. We closed up the hole, ripped out all the plaster and lathe and replaced it with new drywall and mud. We also added MDF beadboard to the ceiling and new base and crown moulding. We also put in a ceiling fan, but decided against leaving it because it was so low, my son almost hit his head on the blades when we would pick him up for bed. Oh yeah, and we replaced the old broken window (don't ask) with a new double-paned window and faux-wood blinds to match the rest of the house. I think it looks rather nice :)

So, we are trying to have the place rented by the middle of July. The rent is $900/month with a $700 security deposit. If you are interested in seeing more, or just have more questions, feel free to call Aaron at 801-891-6674.

Welcome!

As a relatively new resident of just over 4 years, I've decided to start a blog about the state that I currently reside in. My plans have been to return to my home-state of California once I finished school. But we all know how plans can change. Now I am married to a full-blooded Utahan, have a beautiful baby (toddler) boy, and reside in the quiet town of Payson.

My dreams of returning to a beautiful seaside home have not completely left me, but I figured I would make the most out of my time here, however long that may be. So now I would like to share with everyone my adventures in Utah and show that there really is so much to do here.
